The end of August and the summer. The kids are going back to school again. Time for the weather to improve if I remember my school days correctly.

With the kids going to school they needed some cheering up so we thought we would bring them on a camping trip. Nothing too adventurous just a couple of days at some regular camp-site on the outskirts of some city, all the running water etc. that we would need but sleeping in a tent and cooking outdoors.

To our surprise we discovered that camping seems to have gone out of style. None of the "campsites" we found were catering for tents. All they would allow is mobile homes, most of which were parked there (and empty)all year. Who would have thunk it. Only a few years ago everyone I know who had a spare plot of land outside the city was renting it to people in tents.

Rather then sleep in the car or pitch our tent illegally we made some calls and went to stay with family we had in a neighbouring city which by the way was also lacking in camping facilities.

In the end it cost us more to make it up to the boys for the disappointment. We had to bring them to all kinds of fun fares etc. And we had to cook the dinners out in the back garden for the next week.
